Oh No they Didn't! (They did! + other unrelatedness)

Yep, You see that correctly. That is the Gossip Girl cover, in all its creepy, gory, bloody weirdness. Apparently Cecily Von Ziegesar is much more far gone than I thought. After reading her last stand alone novel, Cum Laude, I was really questioning her sanity, since I absolutely LOATHED the book (read all about it here, along with some other abominable narratives). It seems she has really gone off the deep end. In case you are wondering, she has re-written the first installment in the already very messed up series about privileged teens living the high life in New York City. This time there will be blood. (Evidently!) So as I understand it, the girls, blonde bombshell Serena & brunette beauty Blair, will now resort to murder to further fulfill their every spoiled want and need. Even though I kind of find this revolting, I also say, "sign me up!". Obviously, I NEED to read this, whether out of sheer fascination or not (or also possibly because I have every other possible Gossip Girl novel in the franchise, including prequels, sequels, spin-offs, and quite possibly prequel-sequels. Anywho, I will keep you updated! Look for this one October 3rd! Here's a summary:

In other news:

*There has definitely been a trend with books becoming movies and TV shows recently (as if I need to say this again!), the latest additions being The Luxe series by Anna Godbersen, Warm Bodies by Isaac Morton, The Secret Circle series by LJ Smith, and The Lying Game by Sara Shepard. The former two are going to be movies, while the latter two are TV series' that already have shows in existence based off of different books from the same authors! I am super excited for ALL of them, but if you want to know more Book to Movie news, stay tuned for my Book to Big Screen feature. (And click for previous posts).

*If anyone is wondering where the Harry Potter Re-Read-a-Ganza! went, I am still planning on finishing it up, but due to the high volume of borrowed books (from both friends and libraries), I have a lot to catch up on, but promise to wrap it up in due time. So stay tuned for that as well. Also, I did happen to get early registration to Pottermore, so I will let you guys know all about the awesome-nosity as it happens to me :)

*There have been loads of great movies recently, and I have only seen a select few of the ones I've wanted to, mostly because I haven't had time to see all the ones that I want! Here are the ones that I've seen since mny last update:




Horrible Bosses was a pretty great movie, jam-packed with some of my favourite funny actors and lots of funny moments. The combination of Jason Sudeikis, Jason Bateman, Charlie Day (as the good guys) and Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell, Kevin Spacey (as the bad guys) was purely marvelous. I loved all of them, and they really showed their hilarious versatility in this comedy. I know we are going to be seeing lots more from new-comer Charlie Day, and I really hope to see Jennifer Aniston in more of these roles, because she completely pulled off the villain! The plot was pretty funny and the ending was also pretty great, with lots of funny scenes and dialogue in between. This was a perfect summer comedy and I can't stress enough how bang-on everything came together!



I saw Bad Teacher after that, thinking that it would be so funny, exactly how I imagined it from the trailers: funny-girl Cameron Diaz in a funny role and hilarious concept, with an amazing cast to back her up. Jason Segel. Justin Timberlake. How can you go wrong? Let me spoil it for you: it went wrong. It just seemed like one of those movies that shows all its funny parts in the trailer. And it was way more vulgar than I thought, which isn't usually a problem for me, but it kind of just seemed unnecessary. Don't get me wrong, the actors still did an amazing job, I just got the feeling that there wasn't a whole lot to work with. I kind of couldn't wait for it to be over. It was still funny though and I liked the ending, and loved Jason Segel. I guess it's just more of a rental movie than a theatre one.




Crazy Stupid Love. Wow. I loved this movie. I saw it most recently, and I cannot get it out of my head. I want to see it again. I wanted to see it again right after I saw it! And again, and again, and again! This movie was so amazing, and there are so many good things about it. I love all the actors. They all did amazing jobs, and were so convincing. I really believe that this movie appeals to all generations, due to it's relatability and separate yet involved storylines. There were also so many surprises (ones that even I didn't see coming, and believe me, I pick up on a lot). And of course the movie was filled with hilarious parts. The dialogue, the scenes, the techniques. Everything seemed to add to the humour and authenticity of the movie. Steve Carrell was stellar, as always. Ryan Gosling. Yikes. Don't even get me started on this Canadian hunk-a-hunk. He was AMAZING in this movie, and acted superbly. He captured the essence of the character perfectly and makes me swoon everytime I think about it. He was funny and genuine and cute and sexy all at the same time, and I love him! The love stories portrayed throughout the whole film were so well done, and this movie really gets it, and has everything going for it! A must see, and one of my favourites, EVER!

This amazing work of art is already released, but still deserves to be mentioned, if only because it was so epic. If you are a fan of the movies, you have probably already seen it (and contributed to the records it broke at the box office!). If you aren't a fan, still see it! It is amazing, and really the best way to wrap up the series. We see Harry's journey end, after 10 years of dynamic movies, and this is the best one yet. It is jam packed with amazing special effects, action, emotions, humour, and awesomeness! See it, you won't regret it... The Help

This book has been catching my attention since I first heard that it was going to be a movie, and has been popping up everywhere I go even longer. I am always hesitant to read books that seem to mature, or that are so highly acclaimed, almost because I think I won't like them or something (I know, I'm weird) and this was no exception. But of course once I got wind that it was going to be made into a movie, I just had  to read it, and am still trying to get my hands on it! The trailer looks amazing; it's heartfelt, funny, and endearing, all at once. I think that anyone should see this vintage film that explores freedom and looks completely promising and wonderful! At first glance, this movie was grouped into all the other Anna Faris movies that I know of, which are pretty stupid and immature, but this one actually looks really promising and cute. And worthwhile. A woman looks back on her love life to see if she has let The One pass her by. Also boasting a pretty awesome star-studded cast, What's Your Number looks like the next best romantic comedy that will surprise me with it's wisdom and relatability. Watch the trailer. Breaking Dawn Part I

If you know anything about me, you would know that of course I am dying to see part 1 of the last installment in the Twilight Saga movies. Between Kellan Lutz and Taylor Lautner, you wouldn't be able to pay me to NOT see this movie, and I just know that it'll be great. We see Bella get married, as well as some other coming of age things (naughty, I know- ;) and I am so looking forward to it-even more so after seeing the amazing trailer. Whether you like Twilight or not, I think that this will be an amazing Fall flick (even if there are some haters out there!) Being the first book in the dynamic Millenium Triliogy that has swept the world, authored by the late Stieg Larsson, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo just HAS to be as good. I've read the books, and they are so complicatedly brilliant and well-written, I just can't imagine a bad movie coming out of it. Not to mention the star-studded cast. If you haven't read the books, you should! The heroine is amazing and so unique and different. That mixed with the rich language and mysterious plot is the recipe for one of the best series I have ever read. A must read + see for sure! By far my favourite Dr. Seuss book, The Lorax is the perfect children's book, filled to the brim with clever rhymes, colourful pictures, and an awesome allegorical message about the environment. I simply cannot wait for this movie, not only because of the pre-existing awesomeness of the beloved picture book, but also because of the amazing cast line-up! The Hunger Games

Unless you've been living under a rock, you must have heard of this awesome, dystopian materpiece called The Hunger Games. First of all, the books are gold. They are amazing, and if you haven't read them, go hide. If you have missed out on all of the hype surrounding the upcoming movie (which is filming now), then I pity you. Between all the casting rumours and surprises, this movie already has so much publicity, and I know that it will be a stunner. The idea is so novel and completely gruesome that it makes the series just that much more real, and scary most of the time. There is sure to be some awesome action, automatic tears, and a heart-wrenching romantic triangle. Everything that I love in a good story :) I sincerely cannot wait! Click to MTV so they can teach me How to Dougie...

Part II

Ok, so I didn't learn how to Dougie (although maybe in future?), but last night I did happen to click over to MTV to catch the MTV Movie Awards, and some awesome upcoming Book to Movie sneak previews!

First of all, cute as a button Emma Watson presented us with a new clip of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II, which was so cool! My most favouritist scene, when Harry goes to die. Epic!

Then, towards the end of the broadcast, our favourite Twilight hotties (ok so maybe I'm the only one who likes them :| ) took the stage to show the World Premiere of the Breaking Dawn Part I movie trailer! (which I did not happen to catch earlier in the day, since it was leaked.... nope, not at all...)

All in all, a great night for sneak previews!

And also a good night for Twilight Saga: Eclipse, since it seemed to take, like, all the awards (except for Jaw Dropping Moment, which went to Justin Bieber. ?!. Soooo, let me get this straight.. Justin Bieber singing some rando song in his movie about singing, was more jaw dropping then James Franco cutting off his arm, and Natalie Portman self-mutilating??) Anywho, those Twilight actors (with the exception of Taylor Lautner. Always Taylor Lautner. Yum. Taylor Lautner :) were pretty flipping hilarious, if only because they are so awkward. I mean K-Stew has always been pretty hard to watch in real life, but it's part of her charm, she's down to earth and doesn't give an F. But Pattinson? He was the most awkward of them all! His first award could have been chalked up to the fact that he wasn't expecting it. But then the second, he ran off the stage and kissed Taylor Lautner, only to return and tell Kristen that he was going to 'take her back-stage' in a very 'I wanna bone you' manner. I wish they would just out their relationship already and stop playing mind games with my very gullible mind! So then Pattinson went on to award Reese Witherspoon the Generation Award with Patrick Dempsey and Chelsea Handler, which was almost too brutal to watch. Made for some good entertainment though. I mean, Robert Pattinson missing the punch line of his own joke, and ending up saying, "Well then I fucked her" about girl-next-door Reese was pretty funny. Only to be outdone when Reese had to correct him, saying that the punchline was that Rob playing Reese's son in Vanity Fair (apparently the part got cut) and then her lover in Water For Elephants, makes Rob 'the best Mother-Fucker in Hollywood!"

Which you have to admit, is pretty funny, am I right?

So the rest of the show wasn't bad. Jason Sudeikis hosted, and he is one of my favie favie funny actors from SNL and other movies. He seemed pretty funny, even though he did try to crack too many Arnold Swarzt-en-whatever jokes, which were not well received by the crowd. The intro that was a spoof of The Hangover Part II was pretty hilarious, Taylor Lautner (break to drool) being the one who goes missing. And he had some self-written songs about some of this year's movies, which were pretty funny.
My favourite part though, would have to be when he smoothly slipped in the little tidbit about being a father soon. Is this a reference to his ex January Jones being pregnant, and refusing to name the Baby Daddy? I hope so. I think that they would be so cute together. I love them both, and his funny would balance her beauty perfectly, in my opinion!

Also another great moment from the show was youngin' Alexys Nycole Sanchez, who won the award for Best Line From a Movie. Her acceptance speech was super-adorable and she ended with her line, "I wanna get chocolate wasted!" So cute!

Ok, so moving on. In other news, I have recently made some amazing food and I wanted to share some of the awesome deliciousness with you (mostly just wanted to brag actually-tehe). I was most recently busy whipping up, like, a hundred, cookies for a bake sale at work, and might I say that they were super-yum-o, and a huge hit! I also tried out making scalloped potatoes for the first time, which were pretty much a huge success, even though I forgot an important ingredient, 2 cups of cream. Oh well, next time I shall try it with the cream, and let you know which one is better. With the potatoes, I enjoyed ham, made in the crock-pot, marinaded in my amazing homemade BBQ sauce. And finally, probably the most popular, my recently discovered, original Holly recipe: Mac 'n' Cheese. (Which, for the record, I am still eating, and already fed about 6 people at work. And may or may not be eating right now. Huhhuh. See what I did there. Intriguing, no?). So if anyone wants the recipes, just comment below. Along with melting our apartment from the oven being on constantly, I have also managed to catch a few movies. YAY!

Something Borrowed is another Book to Movie fantango which stemmed from the book of the same name by Emily Giffin, (one of my favourite authors). This movie boasted so many good celebs and definitely did not disappoint. It is such a good summer movie, and it goes without saying that if you liked the book, I think you will love the movie. They did such a good job with the adaptation, and some of the scenes between Ginnifer Goodwin and Kate Hudson were just so funny and friendship chemistry was really evident between them. John Krasinski is always cute and goofy, and really provided so much more for the movie than his role does in the book, and it was greatly appreciated :)

Bridesmaids was a smash hit that was funny and vulgar in all the right places! I knew that I had to see this movie as soon as I saw the preview. I absolutely luuurve Kristen Wigg in anything she puts her name on, and Melissa McCarthy has been keeping me in stitches since Gilmore Girls circa the year 2000! The film did not disappoint. It actually was so much better than I had anticipated. It was hilarious, and also not a bad story-line. And I definitely enjoyed the dorky goofball love interest, Chris O'Dowd. All of the characters were great actually, which is good in a movie, and I think that the writing was excellent. Never a dull moment! I recommend this to anyone who likes to laugh hysterically :)



I know what you're gonna say. And what all the critics said. You didn't like it. It was too similar to the first one. But really, I liked it. It was similar to the first one, but that's what you get, it's the sequel. And it was different enough for me to enjoy it. To me, the similarities added to the humour, and obviously they were on purpose. But all in all, the actors were still great, and the scenes were different enough to warrant new laughter. Bradley Cooper managed to be hilarious, cute, and swoon-worthy. Zach Galifianakis was creepy and random, just how we like him. And Ed Helms was just flipping hilarious! I must say though, I don't think I'll be visiting Bangkok anytime soon. Or, like, EVER! Overall, I admit the movie was similar yes, but if you wanted to see something different, then you shouldn't have rooted for a sequel. That would be called a completely different movie with the same actors!

Morning Glory was an exceptional movie, and I can't believe I waited this long to see it! I absolutely love Rachel McAdams, and the other actors in it were amazing as well. It was funny, cute, and emotional in all the right places. Perfection! Probably the thing that I enjoyed most though, was the soundtrack. And of course it doesn't exist, because the world, apparently, likes to spite me! But anyway, the movie was incredible. Rachel McAdams does so many different kinds of movies, and I love her in all of them. This movie wasn't completely dynamic, but one that I will remember for years to come as being funny, down-to-earth, and inspirational! I just hope you didn't wait as long as I did to see it!

Ok, keeping with the movie theme, there are also soooo many great movies coming out this summer, and I really wouldn't be able to live with myself if I didn't share them with you!

So I'm gonna start out with some movies that I didn't think I would want to see, but actually look pretty good. First of all Thor, which I know is already out, but I'm going to include it anyway because it looks so darn good! At first glance, this looks like some super-hero action movie that doesn't really interest me. But then I noticed two things: a) Chris Hemsworth-hubba hubba! and b) that it actually looked kinda funny, and it looks slightly romantic as well. This is a must-see for me!

Another comic-book, super-hero-ishy flick is Green Lantern, which also won me over for the same reasons! This one comes out June 17th!

Fright Night, a new vampire movie coming out August 19th, was yet another movie that I rolled my eyes at until I saw the trailer. I mean, come on, another vampire movie? Can't we get over this already?! (There can only be one Highlander!) But then I noticed that it was rocking a pretty good cast, Colin Farrell & McLovin' (umm-yesplease!), and it looks pretty good for vampire-slash-scary movie. Hmm, we will have to see...

So now on to some movies that just look really good, coming out sometime this year.

Crazy Stupid Love, a romantic comedy starring the likes of Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, to name a few! July 29th.

Bad Teacher, a sure-fire raunchy-rom-com starring Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake and Jason Segel. June 24th.

Horrible Bosses, a star-studded comedy with some of my all-time favs: Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis, Colin Farell, Jason Bateman, Jamie Foxx, Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Bowen, Charlie Day, Donald Sutherland and John Francis Daley. July 8th.

The Change-Up, a cliche comedy that I'm hoping can still make me laugh in all the right places, starring Jason Bateman, Ryan Reynolds, Leslie Mann and Olivia Wilde. August 5th.

Friends With Benefits, a rom-com that I'm hoping will deliver, even though it does seem oddly similar to No Strings Attached. Starring Justin Timberlake, Mila Kunis and Andy Samberg (swoon). July 22nd.

Monte Carlo, with some of my favourite actors, this adventure rom-com is sure to have me laughing, smiling, and swooning :) Starring Leighton Meester, Selena Gomez, Katie Cassidy and Cory Monteith. July 1st.

Larry Crowne, an understated romantic comedy that I'm sure will stand in a league of its own starring Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks. July 1st.

A special shoutout goes out to two movies coming out a while from now, but I just can't get them off my mind:

New Year's Eve, the sequel to last year's Valentine's Day that boasts just as many celebrities, many of which hold a dear place in my heart: Zac Efron, Katherine Heigl, Lea Michele, Josh Duhamel, Ashton Kutcher, Sofia Vergara, Hilary Swank, Alyssa Milano, Sarah Jessica Parker, Halle Berry, and the list goes on! Look for this December 9th!

The Vow, which looks like it could be my new favourite movie, boasting two Nicholas Sparks-worthy-actors and what promises to be lots of tears with a smattering of laughter. Look for Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams in time for Valentine's Day 2012.

Catching Up.

So it has been quite a while since I have shared my life with you lucky followers :)

Here is some more.

There are some things that come to my attention right away, and some that I am sure I have forgotten which is very unfortunate for every party involved-boo!  I have not been reading quite as much recently, which will hopefully be remedied after this dreadful prison I call University loosens its death grip on me.  Geesh. I am SOOO ready for summer!! Only one more week of class, and then two more weeks of exams, and I will be free! Cue rejoicing music (perhaps Rolling in the Deep by Adele-which I happen to be very obsessed with at the moment, although I do question its validity to this context).

To update on the ever changing yet interesting status of The Hunger Games movie, more specifically, the casting, I am still not quite satisfied. The role of Katniss has gone to Jennifer Lawrence, which I don't really have an opinion on other than to mention that I am absolutely elated that the role did not go to Alyson Stoner! I feel that Jennifer Lawrence should do the role justice, if they can manage to convey her properly physically. As for the more important people, in my opinion (well really only one person): Peeta. So I was completely overjoyed to learn that Liam Hemsworth was being considered, until I found out that he was being considered for Gale and not Peeta. I think a little piece of me died actually. I really do not want this to happen for two reasons: a) Liam fits perfectly into what I want Peeta to look like and be, and b) if he does in fact end up playing Gale, then I know that I will end up rooting for Gale in the movies (not unlike what happened in the Twilight franchise when god sexpot hottie Taylor Lautner conveyed Jacob so completely perfectly and muscularly), and this is not what I want to happen! I love Peeta Mellark, and I do not want to forget about him as I have Edward Cullen!!

Note To Future Self: Holly, I know that you are very easily swayed, but do not, under any circumstances, root for Gale.  Peeta is perfect, remember Peeta? Your lover? Katniss's saviour? 
Bottom Line: Peeta > Gale.


Moving on....

I don't know if anyone has seen the new Ke$ha video (I am also not certain that it can be considered new, as I do not watch music videos that often)... It is sooooo twisted! I actually had to call Cait into the living room, and she like never watches music videos, pretty much as a rule. I don't remember the last time I was so completely flabbergasted and speechless. And it's not like her other videos have been even remotely close to normalcy.. So long story short, there are creepy unicorn headed humans, and this just commences the non-sensical bull-pucky. Like I mean that in the most literal way... she says something about a bear, and the president, and getting elected to.. ibikistan?? So this segues into the song, which is completely unrelated to the video content. And then James Van Der Beek, whom I haven't seen in forever, appears, and goes on to partake in a very creepy and not at all funny way. He uses the whole "Key-dollar sign-Ah" joke that was, like, totes already done in Glee? Like hellloooo?? Lame-o... This is right around the time when I finally called Cait in to view this atrocity (seeing as she is pretty much obsessed with Dawson's Creek), and we returned to the living room, just to sync up perfectly with Van Der Douche and his creepy pelvic thrusting.. So pretty much the rest of the video is what appears to be a rainbow-lazer-tag war between the two. Overall, very strange...

One must ask themself: why in the world would James want to be in this video/what could Ke$ha's people possibly offer him that would be enough to outweigh the humiliation? I must admit that he did look quite dashing with this hairstyle (not the long blonde hair that makes me want to gag), even if he was apparently wearing a bra..

Another Fun Fact from this week: I met the Harlem Globetrotters! More accurately, I saw said Trotters, and met one of them. They came into the mall where I work (and might I add that they are freakishly impressively tall) and one of them came into our store, and purchased his 5-Hour Energy and Tiger balm from yours truly. I felt remarkably special :)

Red Riding Hood
I finally saw this after reading the book, and I must admit it was pretty creepy, and like most cases, I did enjoy the book better. I actually didn't expect this to be the result because, in this case, the book was based off of the movie. But there was still much more character and plot development in the book. So kudos to the author on that. Having said that, I still think that the movie was pretty good, and the most remarkable thing in my mind is the amazing casting of the gorgeous dudes that play the leading men. Like wow. Perfection. The two guys in the love triangle were so perfect, and signified the good and bad themes perfectly. Good did prevail in this case, for me, ergo I am amazingly obsessed with Max Irons! He is so yummy, but moreover, he acted spectacularly, and I think he conveyed the emotions stupendously. The acting in the entire movie was overall well done, and I recommend this movie to anyone looking for a fantastically creepy, and slightly thrilling movie!


Due Date
I have been wanting to watch this movie for a while, and was not disappointed. It was very funny, and Zach Ga-blah-blah-watsit and Robert Downy Jr. complemented each other perfectly. The plot wasn't golden, but the humour outweighed in all aspects!


Flipped
I have also been wanting to watch this movie for what seems like eons after reading the book, but probably put it off as long as I did because I was slightly disappointed with the book. The movie, though, was better. I loved the actor playing Bryce, because I did just see him in I Am Number Four (see how easy it is to please me/how easily I can be swayed? All you need to do is be associated with something that I like!). I found the movie very cute and more dynamic than the book, and it definitely had a better ending, leaving the romance aspect open for Julie and Bryce, which I felt was not portrayed properly in the book. Unless I am just not remembering correctly, which is completely plausible, since I do read sooo many books. If I am wrong, don't hesitate to comment and let me know your thoughts :)
